How to Get Your Business Started on the 52 Page Project

Believe it or not, there’s plenty of material for any business to write a page a week on their website. We’re going to use the free and open source software Wordpress to help create and manage your website.

If you don’t already have a domain name registered for your business, go and register one now. You can easily and cheaply do it at www.GoDaddy.com . Sign up for web site hosting at the same time and register your name for only $3.99.

Now that you have a domain name and web hosting for it you can install Wordpress. Most hosts have a “1-click installion” button that uploads the software and sets up the database that powers Wordpress. Go ahead and install Wordpress now.

The rest is self explanatory. Once you’re logged in, click on the “write page” button and create your basic pages such as about, contact, services, testimonials. Now you have a basic website just like everyone else.

Here’s where you get ahead of your competition. Using the blog feature, you’ll write a new page every single week. Sometimes you may have more topics to write about in a week than others. That’s fine, as long as you’re steadily creating more content. For your first post write an introduction about yourself and your company. It shouldn’t should like something out of a brochure, rather a casual introduction among friends.

For next week, start making a list of questions your customers frequently ask you. Then start writing new posts addressing those exact questions. You’ll quickly see how your new site will be a great tool in communicating with both your current and potential clients.
